Personal Electronic Device Policy

Wynyard Comprehensive High School Personal Electronic Device Policy

Personal Electronic Devices include any device not supplied by the school and can connect to the internet, including but not limited to cell phones, smart watches and earbuds.  As per Horizon Policy AP 345 the use of PEDs is restricted during class time (instructional time), including spares and Distance Education classes.

Students in Grades 7 and 8 are to leave their PEDs at home or keep their PEDs in their lockers if they do bring them to school.  Students grades 9 to 12 are encouraged to leave their PEDs either at home, in their vehicle or locked in their lockers. If you have a PED in class, you can put it in the storage container on silent mode.  If you do not turn in a PED, we assume you do not have one on you. Using a PED during class time or being distracted by one during class time anywhere in the building during instructional time may result in consequences.  We have five classes during the day at 65 minutes each (instructional time).  During class time it is encouraged that all PED are turned on airplane mode.  Smart watches may be visible but not accessed during instructional time. WCHS is not responsible for the loss, damage or theft of any PEDs.  These devices are not allowed at any time in areas of privacy, such as the washrooms and changerooms.  As always, WCHS staff will seek to educate and assist students in their application of this policy in a positive manner.  Refusal to comply with this policy becomes a discipline situation.  Access to PEDs is allowed during breaks and lunch time.  Any exceptions to the new policy will be handled directly by the principal.  Parents are encouraged to contact the office if you need to contact your child during class time.  In-class exceptions for use in specific classes Grades 9 to 12 by teachers may occur per Horizon Policy and Procedures.
